Erika Sanchez owns 2.5 hectares of land in the San Antonio Huista area in the famous Huehuetenango region. She grows Caturra, Bourbon and Pache varieties of coffee on her farm La Montaña.

Thefermentation method that Erika uses is unique and is taught to other farmers in the area, members of ACODIHUE (Association for Integrative Development Cooperation of Huehuetenango). Erika allows the coffee to dry longer under controlled conditions to bring out its fruity characteristics. Erika is also part of the Red de Mujerez (Network of Women) group. It is made up of 830 women producers who were either widowed during the civil war or whose husbands fled the country during the country's 2001-2004 coffee crisis. A total of 8 different Mayan languages are spoken in the community, showing the diversity of culture and language in this area of Guatemala. The farmers are also united by organic cultivation, the production and use of natural fertilizers, and methods of rust and pest control. The ACODIHUE association, as well as the importer Falcon Coffee, supports women farmers with training in organic growing methods and improving the quality of production.
