Farm

Tierra Linda comes from two neighboring family farms in the Las Manos community in the Dipilto region of Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua. Finca Santa Isabel has a tradition dating back more than seventy years, while Finca Mirjam became part of the family farm in 2025. The farms are located at an elevation of 1,220–1,252 meters above sea level and together comprise 18 hectares of coffee plantations. The coffee trees grow in the shade of native and fruit trees, which provide 30–50% shade. In addition, 15 hectares of pristine forest are protected at Finca Santa Isabel. The farm uses its own compost, organic fertilizer made from coffee pulp, and carefully selected synthetic products. Emphasis is placed on plant health, regular pruning, and soil care.

Processing

Harvested coffee cherries are sorted by hand, passed through a water bath, and allowed to rest for 18 hours before processing. At Finca Santa Isabel, the coffee is processed using thewashed method. After the parchment is removed, the beans ferment in tiled tanks for 24–36 hours and are then thoroughly washed. The harvest from Finca Mirjam is transported to the family-owned Finca Bethania, where processing and quality control take place. The coffee then travels to the Cafetos de Segovia dry mill, where it is stored, sorted, and prepared for export. Both wet mills minimize water consumption and divert the water they use to oxidation tanks, thereby helping to protect local water resources.

Variety

Tierra Linda combines the Caturra and Red Catuaí varieties. Caturra is a compact Arabica variety common in Latin America. Red Catuaí was created by crossing the Mundo Novo and Caturra varieties and is valued for its shorter stature and good productivity. Together, these two varieties form the foundation of this Nicaraguan coffee.
