Kaffia
The Kaffia Barista X grinder is the successor to the successful Barista grinder. But now with an improved design and less weight. It is made of aluminium, which makes it both lightweight and durable. Thanks to the precision 420 stainless steel stones, the grind is better than grinders with ceramic stones such as those from Hario, Porlex or Rhinoware. The grinder has a relatively longer handle, which also makes grinding easier.
The bottom container is screw-on, so it stays securely in place while grinding.
The conical grinding stones are made of quality steel and ensure a stable grinding coarseness for years. Adjusting the grinding coarseness is very simple and is done by turning the wheel anti-clockwise. Compared to the competition, the grinder also has a numerical indication of the coarseness, for easier orientation in the grinding coarseness.
The grinder is suitable for all alternative coffee preparations. It can also be used to grind fine espresso, but as with other grinders in this price range, it does not allow you to adjust the grind accurately enough, i.e. the steps may be too large to set the correct recipe in an espresso machine.

The grinder works well; it grinds nicely. You can adjust the grind setting. One small thing that’s missing is a cleaning brush, since the grinder can’t be washed with water.

I have an older Hario Mini grinder, and I can’t find replacement burrs for it. I also grind for espresso, and it just wasn’t cutting it anymore, so I bought a replacement. The Kaffia has been grinding perfectly so far; we’ll see over time if those steel burrs wear down too. It grinds much faster than the Hario—easily five times as fast—which is great. The downside is that the handle attaches directly to the top lid but doesn’t fit 100% snugly against the grinder. As a result, the grinder makes a bit of a mess while grinding—sometimes tiny coffee beans fly out of it.
