Peru is currently one of the world's most important producers of organic Arabica coffee. This is mainly due to the unique microclimates of the Andes Mountains, where coffee trees grow at high altitudes on fertile soil. Most of the production comes from small-scale farmers in cooperatives who approach cultivation with the utmost respect for ecology and sustainability. This coffee comes from the portfolio of the Perhusa family company, whose name Huancaruna (translated as 'man of the Huanca people') refers to the proud tradition of the indigenous people of the Andes. Thanks to strict IMO certification, the coffee is guaranteed to have been grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers.
Coffee origin: The beans were grown in the fertile areas of Peru and exported through a logistics centre in Lima (San Isidro). The coffee trees here are grown at higher altitudes, which gives the beans a high density and complex flavour profile. Perales Huancaruna (Perhusa) takes the utmost care with each batch, from harvesting to final grading, to support the sustainable development of local farming communities.
Flavour: Peruvian coffee from Perhusa stands out for its balance and smooth, creamy texture. The cup is dominated by the sweet taste of milk chocolate and hazelnuts, complemented by a very mild acidity (low acidity) reminiscent of ripe citrus. The taste is clean and harmonious, the aroma is sweet with hints of caramel and cocoa.
