What is GourmetKáva Specialty?
It is a specialty coffee that we have carefully selected for you, and Beansmith roasted it for us. There are many definitions, but the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) specifically states that these arecoffees that score at least 80 out of 100 in a professional evaluationand do not contain any significant flavor defects. With our specialty coffees, you’ll also always find 100% transparency (farms, importer, roaster, and retailer).
The best decaf coffee? We found it and perfected it in our roastery
Decaf coffees are often made from older beans that are “enriched” in this way, but that’s not the case with this coffee. Tumbaga is anexcellent decaf coffee with a focus on quality! The coffee was profile-roasted to ensure it wouldn’t become just another run-of-the-mill, chocolatey-bitter decaf, but would instead have a pleasant fruitiness and produce both a perfect pour-over and a delightful espresso.
A Gentle, Non-Chemical Method of Decaffeination
When decaffeinating coffee with sugarcane, the naturally occurring compound ethyl acetate (EA) is used, which is obtained from molasses (a byproduct of sugar production) during this process. Because EA occurs naturally, this process can be described as “natural decaffeination.”
The EA production process is relatively simple. The coffee beans are moistened with water, and EA circulates through them. EA binds with the caffeine in the coffee beans and extracts it, while most of the other flavor compounds are preserved. Once the desired caffeine level is reached, the remaining EA is removed from the beans through steaming.
Brewing Tip
We don’t specify exact grind sizes because every grinder is different, but you can try grinding to the settings listed in the preparation instructions below. This is just one of several preparation options.
Dripper - 18g -> 3:00 -> 250ml
Aeropress - 10g + 100ml; press down after 2 minutes
Information from the farmer
Tumbaga Sugarcane Decaf coffee is part of the Sucafina Originals line—a range of consistent and affordable blends sourced from a vertically integrated supply chain. Every bag purchased supports the Farmgate Initiative.
Tumbaga coffee is named after an alloy of gold, copper, and silver that was used in Colombia to make small, often religious objects. This alloy symbolically united the opposing energies of the Sun (gold) and the Moon (silver), creating a balance between opposites—much like our Tumbaga Sugarcane Decaf coffee. Our Tumbaga is an excellent decaffeinated coffee that will give you energy without keeping you up at night.
Because we know that the decaffeination process increases sweetness and acidity, the teams at importer Sucafina carefully select coffee with high body, high sweetness, and low acidity.

Excellent coffee!! I wouldn't have guessed at all that this was the decaf version. Although I usually prefer brewing it in a moka pot, I like it better from the AeroPress. Probably the best decaf I've tasted so far. I think I'll stick with this one from now on :)
Probably the best decaf I've ever had!
Excellent coffee—probably one of the best I've had in a while. I'm completely satisfied.
This is the first decaf coffee with a tangy flavor that I've come across. It's great when brewed with a filter—I can hardly tell the difference from caffeinated coffee.
I wouldn't say you can taste peach or lemon in it... but it has a good flavor for decaf coffee. I'd rate the flavor 4/5.
