Vacuum jars are suitable for storing coffee beans as well as freshly ground coffee. They prevent air access and delay the oxidation process of coffee and thus its degradation. Coffeevac canisters cannot exhaust all the air in the canister, but they prevent the release of aroma and the intake of new air.

The way it works is that the top fits onto the bottom so tightly that it’s impossible to close or open the container without pressing the button. This then releases the air, allowing the lid to be put on or taken off.
Considering that the lid is simply placed on top of the container, it stays on very well (due to a vacuum seal). In my opinion, it’s about 95% airtight—when I open the cabinet where the coffee container is stored, I can’t say I can smell the coffee. But when I handle the container and sniff around it, I can sometimes smell the coffee, so it isn’t 100% airtight.
Overall, though, I’m satisfied with the container.
I bought this "vacuum container" in the 500g size; it is not a vacuum container as stated in the description—after closing it, there is no air extraction, negative pressure, or vacuum—the name is misleading. Furthermore, after pouring in the coffee and closing it, you can smell the coffee aroma, which means the container isn’t even airtight. It’s just an overpriced plastic container that doesn’t even preserve the coffee’s aroma.
This container has nothing to do with a vacuum; it does not remove any air from inside once it is closed. It works just like any other airtight container. It would be fair not to use the word "vacuum" in either the title or the description.
