Buno Trading is a relatively small exporter, managing a total of 7 washing stations located in the Guji region of Ethiopia. With an abundance of young, healthy trees, it hasideal conditions for producing extra quality beans. Producers in this area grow their coffee around lush forests, on the hillsides of outlying villages or in the shade of native trees such as Cordia Africana, Acacia and Albizzia. The soil here is volcanic - red and highly fertile.
Buno was established in 2018 and is managed by Mr. Abiyot, who oversees the selection of partners/farmers, cherry processing and drying practices. It also focuses on working with farmers who own plots of between 8 - 15 hectares, ensuring quality improvement and separation of cherry production volumes into individual micro - lots.
Buno pays farmers a premium of one birr per kilogramme harvested and also provides them with a line of credit during the off-season. The credit is then deducted from their payment after the cherries are picked, without interest.
