The Coffee Gardens project aims to improve farmers' incomes and livelihoods, create and provide rural jobs, promote gender equality, increase transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain, promote environmental conservation in the region and provide training to farmers in good agricultural practices.
The coffee is described as an intensely complex fruit explosion, 140 hours of fermentation and 3 years of testing and experimentation. It is named after the head of the washing station, Jo Namugowi Lara, whose passion for coffee and incredible skill is evident in every sip.
Freshly picked coffee cherries are brought to the washing station, sorted and fermented in covered tanks for 100 hours. After peeling, the cherries are immersed in cold river water for a subsequent 40-hour fermentation. The washed grains are then moved to dry in the shade for 2-3 days. Further drying takes place in the sun for approximately 10 days, depending on the season and local weather.
