The traditional Kalabasa pot is produced by hollowing out a pumpkin plant known as kalabasa or Indian cucumber. In Europe, the Kalabasy began to occur at the end of the 17th century. Instead of classical material, others, such as popular ceramics, have spread. The advantage of ceramics is certainly its lifetime and easy maintenance , unlike a pumpkin, the walls of ceramic Kalabasa do not get wet and therefore do not rot.

Drinking over Kalabasa adds to an unusual atmosphere , but these containers are of course popular for their functional properties - easy production, drink does not burn hands, kalabasa does not leak, is light and keeps the drink warm.

Pour 2 - 3 teaspoons of maté leaves into the calabass with the bombilla inside. Water heated to 80 degrees is poured over a metal straw, ensuring that maté does not burn. The refilling process is repeated as long as it has matte strength and taste. We can also drink maté sweet by adding sugar to the maté leaves in kalabasa.

The volume and height of the container are for guidance only, each kalabasa is original . The height ranges from 9 cm - 12 cm, the volume varies between 300 - 600 ml, depending on the shape and height of the container.
