The family-run Finca los Aguacates is located in the Ibagué district of Tolima. Luis, who is already the third generation of coffee growers, takes care of the farm together with his parents, wife and three children. The farm is spread over seventeen hectares at an altitude of 1800 to 2000 meters. Part of this area is reserved for coffee growing, the rest of the farm is divided between permanent crops and nature reserves. Among the cultivated varieties you will find not only the classic Caturra or Colombia, but also Geisha and Catuba. Luis has been in the vintage coffee market for five years now, which has brought a number of great results. "Switching to selected coffee has not only allowed me to improve the living conditions of our family, but also to provide quality education for our children," says Luis.

Tolima Region - Tolima coffees have been very difficult to access in the past, mainly due to the region's unavailability and difficult political situation. For many years, the region of Colombia was controlled by the infamous guerrilla organization called the FARC, which resulted in a significant increase in crime and violence in the area. The situation did not change until 2012, when safe entry was made possible through negotiations between the guerrillas and the Colombian government. Since then, high-quality coffees from small-scale growers have begun to appear on the market. The word Tolima itself comes from the local indigenous language and means "river of snow or cloud". Tolima is located in Cordillera Central in the middle of three mountains, which provides a wide range of microclimate suitable for growing high quality coffee. Coffee production is the main agricultural activity in the area, next to bean growing and cattle breeding. The most famous coffee growing districts in the Tolima region are traditionally Planadas and Chaparral, however our coffee comes from the district of Ibagué, the capital of the region. The city of Ibagué is also known as the '' Ciudad del Abanico '' or the '' folding fan '' city. It got its nickname thanks to the view from the sky, when the river flowing from the mountains separates the rice fields from the cotton fields and thus resembles a folding fan.
