Thefamily-run Finca los Aguacates is located in the Ibagué district in the Tolima region. Luis, who is a third generation coffee farmer, runs the farm with his parents, wife and three children. The farm covers seventeen hectares at an altitude of between 1 800 and 2 000 metres. Part of this area is dedicated to coffee cultivation, while the rest of the farm is divided between permanent crops and a nature reserve. The varieties grown include not only the classic Caturra or Colombia, but also Geisha and Catuba. This is the fifth year Luis has been involved in the coffee market, and it has produced a number of great results.

Tolima region - Tolima coffees have been very difficult to obtain in the past, largely due to the inaccessibility of the region and the difficult political situation. For a number of years, this area of Colombia was controlled by a notorious guerrilla organisation called the FARC, and as a result, crime and violence increased significantly in the region. The situation only changed in 2012, when safe entry was allowed thanks to negotiations between the guerrillas and the Colombian government. Since then, high quality coffees from smallholders in the area have started to appear on the market. The word Tolima itself comes from the local indigenous language and translates as ''river of snow or cloud''. Tolima is located in the Cordillera Central, in the middle of three mountain ranges, which provides a wide range of microclimates suitable for growing high quality coffees. Coffee production is the main agricultural activity in the area, alongside bean growing and cattle breeding. The most famous coffee growing districts in the Tolima region are traditionally Planadas and Chaparral, however our coffee comes from the district of Ibagué, the capital of the region. The city of Ibagué is also known as ''Ciudad del Abanico'' or the city of the ''folding fan''. It earned its nickname because of the view from the sky, where a river flowing from the mountains divides the rice paddies from the cotton fields, resembling a folding fan.
