The name of this village must resonate with some of you. This coffee is simply a heartthrob and probably always will be. In fact, Las Pirias coffee was the pilot version of our Underdog edition and we've been following it up for several years now.
We visited the village in person during our 2019 Underdog trip and also met some of the farmers mentioned above. The village itself lies at almost 2000 meters above sea level deep in the hills of the Chirinos region. That's why we also arrived just before dusk, making the scenery all the more dramatic and powerful. Steep hills, a church, a playground, fields of coffee and fruit... Beautiful!
This blend is made up of produce from several farmers around the village, each year a little different, however, coffees from our Underdog farmers such as Lisaury Bautista and Juan Espinoza are included. We like the concept of "village blends" as they are often great balanced coffees and also give the opportunity to buy larger quantities of coffee from specific farmers, even in a quality that is not that interesting on its own, but when the proportions are right in the blend, it brings out the best. This way the farmer sells a larger part of the harvest directly to Falcons, and therefore to us, is fairly rewarded and has more certainty in a stable supply.
